Hi orientaltec,

Sure, we can add another country. (The original list of countries was just based on our web logs... we're happy to expand it.)

I added a link to the User Group Signup page to your original post.

Thanks,
- Mark

Hello Orientaltec.

Greeting to Uruguay by the entrance like South American country, from Peru, to this more and more small world that approaches to us, with the aid of the people who work and collaborate in CR4, in which I found a forum where I can express my ideas, with people who share a common aim, with the passion for which we prepared ourselves and she connects to us, that is the science of engineering, and to help and that helps questions that always were had, and she crushes the amount to me of people in the world that this arranged to take a time in collaborating and giving part of its knowledge.

Thanks world CR4, to return to the hall class with the world, have made me dust forgotten books.

Greetings World CR4.

Tomás

Hello Tomas

Is nice to find people from near countries in this megaforum CR4, that share interest and are able to open his knowledge to us and help in our daily job.

Today, communication is a very important tool that we must use to act as a big community.

Regards and continue posting every day to maintain this site in movement!!

Hi Alvaro

My wife asks to me if I have a lover and I answer that if CR4 is called, I go away to the bed between the 2 and 3 of the dawn, after trying to answer some questions, this to helped me, I have had to return to read my old books, after 25 years the questions to him are same, "the single one that nothing".

I offer a glass of pisco to your name and the one of Mark by our entrance, and to have new friends.

Tomas

Re: Add Uruguay to Country List

Greetings, Friends from South America,

I wish you well with your group and hope that your discussions flourish. While I was born and have always lived in the United States, I studied Spanish in school, made my first trip to Santiago, Chile (in 1972) where I lived with a family for the summer (pardon me, your winter) and have since traveled to Mexico City for business as have my two sons.

It has always puzzled me why many, maybe most, North Americans (when we stop being so self-absorbed), tend to look first towards Europe and/or Asia rather than toward our South American neighbors. And, in my mind, it has little to do with politics, though that, sadly, is often a factor to some degree.

I know that there are many fine engineering schools from Mexico south to Tierra del Fuego. I believe we share so much in common in the engineering community (perhaps our common language is mathematics and scientific principles?) and a desire to serve the common good that our collaboration can enhance the well being of all.

I wish you well in your endeavors and hope that you will continue to build your CR4 online community. Know that I (and I am sure many others) will read your posts and will contribute as I am able.

Best Wishes!

Matt

PS: It is a LONG time since I have had any pisco but I have not forgotten the favored drink of Chile and the taste of a pisco sour!

What a trip!

I was two years ago in Santiago, was a very good experience. Today i still have at home a bottle of pisco sour..... although pisco is an original drink of Peru (it was recognized last year i believe).

America is a complete continent, all we need is to believe and act in that way

Best Regards!

Hi MillMatt,

first of all I would like to thank you for your words. A person that thinks this way is, no doubt, a good guy!

Problem is that humans are Xenophobic by nature. Xenophobia is not a bad word (as commonly understood): the real meaning of it is FEAR OF ALIENS (FOREIGNERS). The roots for this primitive survival instinct must be sought in the chromosomes we inherited from the very first beings that inhabited our planet.

Polititians, Kings, Rulers and Dictators profited from this fear for hundreds of centuries in their own profit; spreading cruelty, death and pain.

To have had the chance of getting a technical degree in whatever field of science does not make us better than others, nor makes us litterates or educated.

A humble attitude will help us to understand our neighbours as well as to open our minds to new ideas and different approaches to the same phenomenon; turning it into a very enriching experience

If I got a "Flower-Power" flash back or smoked pot while writing this? NO WAY!

Well, it has been too much for this poor creature, I'm going to get some sleep right now!

Let me add my bienvenido!

I taught electronics in Santiago, Chile 1965-67, and married a gal from there. We still speak Spanish almost exclusively at home.

I previously encouraged Tomas to use his English here, and it seems to be working. You may occasionally get a negative response from some person who can't tell the difference between an ignorant English-speaking person and an intelligent person with a less-than-perfect command of English as a second or third language. Pay no attention to any such people. The rest of us are all eager to learn from each other - and do!

Hello Alvaro, Matt, Cosme, Dick, Mark and Masu.

This is that I looking for. Will joining us for ideas that differences. Our language is the science and mathematics, left out the colors and shades that we are always going to find.

And the PISCO and PISCO SOUR are Peruvian, taste pisco "Mosto Verde", "Italia", "Quebranta" made in Peru, its the most flavor, I am sure that will like it. For 1 liter of PISCO use 12-18 Kg. of pure grapes.

I forgot to add that we commonly find (and buy) Pisco Control, Bauzá, and Capel (all from Chile) in the better stores here in California. My father-in-law worked at a John Barnes distillery in Elqui many years ago. Now I'll have to watch for some pisco from Peru - I'll let you know what I find...

I have one vine of "Italia" in my vineyard. Unfortunately it is in a place where a large tree has grown to shade it (I've lived in the same house since 1970). I have made my own wine every year except one since 1973. I get nearly all the grapes by gleaning (going back through the vineyard after the commercial harvest) at a friend's winery a few hundred meters from my house. I have too many trees and too few vines - the birds get the vast majority of my own grapes.

Saludos!

Dick

I suggest the following Piscos to you:

  • BiondiQuebranta 2004 de Deagrosur
  • Pisco Puro Torontel de Rosa Margarita Bravo Vda. De Elías - (Dificil de encontrar)
  • Bodega El Carmen, Pisco Viejo Tonel, Acholado y Mosto Verde de Viejo Tonel.
  • Pisco Tabernero–La Botija–Italia 2002 de Bodegas y Viñedos Tabernero
  • Piscos Acholado Gran Cruz 2004 y Torontel Gran Cruz de Natufrut - (Dificil de encontrar)
  • Pisco Italia 2004 y el Gran Pisco Quebranta 2004 de Viña Ocucaje.
  • Pisco Italia Don Cesar.

This Link is cool, and if you pass by Peru, I would invite you a Pisquera`s zone, and in my home to taste some Pisco.

Regards

Tomas

I just stopped by one store. They had two Peruvian Piscos, Don Cesar is somewhat expensive by my standards, at $27 for 750ml. I bought a bottle of Montesierpe 42% from Ica, $17 for 750ml. I have only visited Lima and the southwest corner near Arica, Chile.

Thanks for the list - I'll keep looking.

Re: Add Uruguay to Country List

My doc told me some time ago to go easy on coffee and wine (and get more exercise, too!), so I follow his orders and drink very little alcohol. But, when I am entertaining family and friends and buy wine, I almost always buy Chilean wine or other South American wines. It's my way of sharing something that many would otherwise overlook and will appreciate.

For whatever reason, Australian wines seem to have a strong following in North America and, from what I have tasted, it seems to be more of a fad created by clever marketing rather than the substance of the product. The lesson, however, is that some good promotional work has great value. Should the wineries and beverage producers of South America advertise their products, the response might be spectacular.

And, I mention this topic not so much to increase alcohol consumption but to suggest that there is much more to be gained of even greater value should we all join hands and work together. There is an impressive engineering community throughout the Americas that can be a positive force far greater than any collection of politicians. Each year 60,000 new engineers graduate in the USA. In Mexico there are 40,000; Brazil, 25,000; Colombia, 11,000. Most other Central/South American countries graduate 1,000 to 2,000 engineers. Let us build literal and figurative bridges on this talented, large community.

We keep the good stuff for ourselves and only export the mass produced chateau cardboard stuff.

I lived in a wine growing region south of Adelaide till recently and once you get to know the wine makers you have access to the really good stuff that they keep for themselves.

Australian red wines will be a lot heavier than most others and this is done deliberately for the most part. The more tannic acid in the wine the longer it can age in the bottle and the more complex the final product will be. Most Australian reds should not be drunk till they are at least 5 years old. Once you get to the really big ones like Penfolds BIN-707 cabernet sauvignon you need at least 7 years and preferably 10. My last bottle of 707 was 10 years old and would easily rate in the top 5 wines I have tasted. When you get to Penfolds Grange (shiraz) don't even think about opening it till it is 20 years old, I have one bottle left and it is being left till it is 25 years old before it gets consumed.

This year the crop has been severely drought affected and the yield is down by as much as 80% in some regions, but, reduced yield due to drought means high quality grapes and wines that age well. So watch out for the 2007 vintage of Australian reds but don't commit infanticide and drink them before they are ready.

I have an update on the Penfold's Grange that I referred to in the previous post. My wife just saw a bottle of the latest vintage to b released going for AU$500. Given that it wont be ready to drink for at least 20 years you can imagine what a mature bottle is worth. Even at $500 a bottle the demand outstrips supply and nobody is allowed to purchase more than 6 bottles.

Gentlemen, these aren't a treaty of piscos and wines, this is the incorporation of Uruguay to enrolled countries.

It seems the liquors product of the grapes is of great controversy, who animates itself to place a commentary.
