DIY Science Project Balloon Inflating/Contracting

02/06/2012 6:52 PM

Hi,

I want to make a helium balloon expanding and contracting repeatedly but not sure where to start (especially the air locking system).

I think of hacking the motor of this air pump http://www.amazon.co.uk/powered-electric-inflator-Inflates-deflates/dp/B005197SC8 but not sure how fast the expanding and contracting speed will be.

Any thoughts/comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

First, a MUCH MORE DETAILED explanation of what you really want to do is in order.

I'd ask some questions, but if you don't have any more of a firm grasp of what you want to do, it would be a waste of time.

Come back with a plan.

How old are you?

I believe a different sort of information may be more useful.

Things like:
Volume of helium involved
Is the exhausted helium from the baloon to be captured or vented
Number of cycles per second/minute
Why helium
Degree of instrumentation required/desired
Degree of accuracy required/desired
Valve actuation desired to be manual/electric/other

Those type of things.
