Surge Supression

02/09/2012 3:20 PM

For those who used or familiar with passive network transient suppressors:

I wonder if I can get a Tri-Phase power "cleaning" device for 3x25A house supply

network. I my region there are quite a few Solar Power Farms that generates AC's false phase detector cut offs.

I remember seeing a diagram of transient suppressing techniques using only coils and transformers.

I am willing to acquire a commercial unit(s) that works in this passive method.

Please help locating a supplier.

Thanks

Liron

Your air conditioner is a 3 phase appliance?

Did I misunderstood: phase differences detected cause cutoff? That, if real, is not cureable with filters. Please go into detail.

If you do a search on the web I'm sure there are many others.

Yeees!

Excellent research, and it was not the question. OP complained about a phase difference detector tripping OFF equipment. IF that is real, no amount of filtering will prevent tripping. A filter with its frequency dependent delays might make it worse. So, which one is it? Real, or fake. The solution is dependent on that answer.

I'm on the same page as you leveles.

OP needs to provide more information.

If his supply is plagued by problems that he believes is attributable to poor feed in practices then that is something that needs to be addressed by the utility.

Filtering won't do squat. Good thing he has phase fail protection or he may well have cooked his AC.

Hi Elroy,

I am very happy with your feedback. I think that the filter will contribute much.

I wonder if I will be able to get one for Delta connection as well.

Therefore, I would appreciate knowing more abot filters for DELTA loads.

Thank you very Kindly

I think AC here was meant to be alternating current / voltage as is generally the case even in my country.

Let us just suggest him the possibilities and he would arrive at the conclusion / further course / come with more detail.

Surge protection that you were talking about for residential purposes / industrial purposes is suppossed to protect the electrical / electronic equipment from either switching / lightning surges. They however come in various classes B / C / D etc. For domestic applications, you can consider Class B (refer to www.phoenixcontact.com) and further onto TRABTECH (TRAnsient ABsorption TECHnology). These class B devices are MOV based and self sacrificing devices. They help suppress the line induced surges. Take help from the local representative of Phoenix.

Line filters are altogether different product from the Surge Protection Devices (Class B). Yes, these would have the inductors & capacitors and that you referred to in your question. You can dig for some more information from the same website.

Whichever solution, please note that the faults in your residence would still continue to trip the circuit breakers and THAT need to be addressed first.
