Reason for CVT Blast

02/09/2012 9:33 PM

In our substation we are ckecking synchro scope, bus and line isolators of both ends are closed , at first we charged the line in our end with synchroscope in bypass mode and handtripped the line , after with in one minute we charged the line from other end , at this moment our Y Ph CVT was blasted. I want to know the reasons for blasting of CVT. CVT was comissioned in the year 2000.

Don't know where or how but it sounds like what you've actually wired up is not what you're supposed to wire up. Then again, maybe this has nothing to do with your activity. A lightning strike may have happen several kilometers away.

Check your surge suppressors/lightning protectors.
