"Miracle Planet" on the Science Channel

"Miracle Planet" on the Science Channel is an outstanding series that I highly recommend to anyone interested in the study of the evolution of life and of the evolution of the Earth itself. This is a new production that has some really cool visualizations... from the continents moving and crashing, to early life forms, to the interior of the planet. It's really well done. As a bonus, if you have Discovery HD, you get the same show in high-def with fewer commercials.

This is probably one of the best series on the subject that I've ever seen; it's a very compelling experience that puts millions of years of planetary history into context.

Show

I watched that show last night. It was interesting that they put it all in the frame of reference of a 24 hour day. Humans would have just been born in the last 30 seconds. The other odd fact was that they claimed that the Earth was almost inhabitable after the first 1 hour (that represented 188 million years if I remember correctly.) It was very interesting, I recommend checking your listings to see when it is on again.

I haven't seen that episode yet... the ones I liked covered time ranges well before humans. The Earth has been through a lot of gigantic changes, and each round of life, death, and evolution is realy cool to think about.
