Symbol Notation for a Electrical Machinery Project

02/14/2012 6:29 AM

And there goes my second question gent´s ( and dames);

Few ears ago the designation (here in Europe, for design purposes) for the different apparatus to be assembled in a electrical machinery installation was:

a) switches; b) auxiliary switches; c) contactors; d)auxilary contactors; e) protection devices; f) mesurement transformers; g) mesurement devices; h) signals and sinal devices; k) Capacitors and coils; m) machines and transformers, converters and generators; n) rectifiers and batteries; p) valves and magnetic amplifiers; r) Resistors and... s) mechanicall devices operated electricly.

This standart may be actual ( or not)... I would like to know if this same letters are valid in the U.S.A for project porpuses?

I hope Bog_bones doesn't take it personally. His question seems valid, to me.

This is the object of my scorn this morning: "i need free software for loadflow, short circuit calculation, motor setting, 4 power systemanalysis.please sugest some link, website, which provides free software." Power System Protection Calculation Software

Imagine how eager I am to do a simple, elementary search for someone too lazy to do their own work! (Again, not you Bog_bones)

Cheers.

I didn't even go there! Sometimes I only pop in to see if the earlybirds have found a new way to say "use google" / "pay attention in class" / "do your own homework" / "we adore hobbits, Over-Unity & HHO"

(Again, not you Bog_bones)

Like a switch being labeled a3, and a solenoid k4 etc...?

I've seen that on European drawings.

I can't remember if it was different in US documentation or even consistent in Euro drawings..

In any event they are normally described fully in the BOM or parts list.

Try to find some schematics of US kit on the internet to see if there is any trace of conformity.

Why, are you producing or consuming?

Here in the USA, it is normal to label Switches S1, S2, S3, etc. I know of no difference between regular and auxiliary switches. Transformers are normally labeled T1, T2, T3 etc. Capacitors are normally labeled C1, C2, C3, etc...

In other words, NO!

there is the difference between a diagram , a design , a scheme and a project...

and there is also the power (in electrical terms) involved on the circuit.

that notation is (would or so) for industrial and grid voltages and currents... in a electronics circuit design there are differences ... I am telling you this but the reply is for all the others...!

ps: there are layers of notation in the same diagram, so you are likely to be right!!

There are plenty to chose from. As was mentioned earlier.

The answer to your question is no.

We usually use CR for control relay, S for switch, M for motor, PE for photo eye, PX for Proximity switch, C for capacitors, R for resistors, and a host of others.

European hardwire drawings are also usually drawn from the top of the page to the bottom, where here in North America we draw them from left to right across the page.

Not everybody here uses the same symbols or depicts devices the same way.

Enjoy

We use ANSI standards here in the US as a general rule, but we are also a nation of rebels, so not everyone follows general rules. For the most part, a set of project drawings includes a symbol key so there is little doubt as to what the engineer means.
