Heat Resistant Paint for My Car

02/20/2012 4:35 AM

I am using my car in the coastal region of India, where the temperatures go up to 47 degrees centigrade with a humidity of 80%, in the summer days it will be very hot and when i come to office in my car and park, by afternoon the car gets very hot and it takes about 4-5 minutes to cool down the car with full AC on. For this are there any heat resistant paints which can be applied on the inner roof and the inner walls of the doors of the car, so that the car interior temperature does not go up. Also are there any alternate solutions for resisting the heat to enter the car.

The term heat resistant paint used for the paints which can sustain high temperature. In your case, you probably need a paint with high emissivity outside, and with low emissivity (radiant barrier coating) inside. Selection of material shall be by considering the compatibility with the car body material and the existing paint.

Don't get the guys hope up.

Nothing applied to the vehicle will keep it cool, if it is exposed to direct radiation from the sun. It won't do any harm, I guess.

I understand absorptivity and emissivity, but they don't work very well in an oven. (I've used thermal control coatings on spacecraft electronic packages where there is no atmoshphere to help dissipate heat.)

Shade will help the vehicle stay closer to ambient temperatures better than anything else.

Cheers.

I'd suggest duPont Imron paint. Expensive stuff. http://pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/visitor/common/pdfs/b/product/dcf/OEM_Fleet/TDS_Imron_Elite_Productive_EX_3.5VOC.pdf

Have you tried using a sun-shade on the windows? You should be able to get cardboard ones fairly easily. Some of them have a reflective, aluminum layer to add some reflectivity.

It is safe to use high temperature paint inside a fireplace, but the surface needs to be clean before the paint's applied or it will not bond properly to the surface. Scrub with a wire brush as you're vacuuming. Wash with a strong solution of tsp and rinse well. Allow to dry for 2 days or so. Spray on 2 or 3 thin coats, allowing drying time between. The surface does not have to be immaculate. Removing loose stuff and surface soot is enough.
