2-wire is done the right way and the wrong way.

3-wire is done the right way and three wrong ways.

4-wire is done the right way and five wrong ways.

Before answering to my question, read it carefully.

If you know the answer, reply it like a genius. And if you don't know the answer, don't reply stupidly.

You really need to give the forum more to go on than one sentence, Guvnor.

OK. Let me be specific.

I know about loop powered indication of a power supply of +/-24VDC, any 2 wire transmitter which operates on +/- 24VDC & whose O/P is 4 to 20mA and an indicator whose I/P is 4 to 20mA. (if I'm not mistaken then it's 2 wire connection. right? As all are connected in series).

And the above asked question by me was basically asked to me in the interview.

I answered to him about 2-wire connection. But he told me that he never had heard about such kind of connection.

So I got confused that is there any kind of connection for such kinds?

Pl. help me to know about the same.

If you need any clarification about the question pl. feel free to ask.

Thanking you.

See? Reasonably formative questions get reasonable responses... the internet imitates real life. Just like real life, the forum doesn't usually enjoy a game of "Twenty Questions".

Good Answer vote for tony, well done. You can do this as well, just hit that 'Rate' button in the bottom left-hand corner of his comment.

I agree. I'm maintaining a low profile today lest I be branded a debaser.

Yeah, I was thinking that about myself as well. You and I have been very amiable today, as has most of the group. Maybe the forum has become a kinder, gentler place to visit. Phys would be proud of us!

I give it about three more hours...

Then in that interview, I would have answered correctly, and you wouldn't, which means that I would have got the job, and you wouldn't.

Two-wire and 4-wire 4-20 mA signaling circuits look like this. First, the 4-wire circuit, where two wires carry power to the field transmitter and two additional wires carry the mA signal back to the controller:

Next, the 2-wire circuit, where the same two wires carry transmitter power and signal:

Then you also have 2-, 3-, and 4-wire RTD circuits:

The difference between the 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire RTD circuits is how they handle the error caused by cable resistance between the RTD sensor and the receiving instruments. In a 2-wire system, the cable resistance causes a positive error. In the 3-wire and 4-wire systems the cable resistance error is compensated. 4-wire systems are considered the most robust. 3-wire systems properly compensate for cable resistance, but only if all three wires (and their associated connections) have exactly the same amount of resistance.
