Paralleling Diesel Generators

02/27/2012 8:01 AM

Hi , I work for a utility where we use diesel power generation. Our plants consist of 3 CAT diesel generators equiped with PMGs. We currently use the Basler SSR 63-12 voltage regulator in a cross current compensation configuration for three generators. I would like to start using the CAT digital voltage regulator which is also a Basler regulator when changing out generators. My question is how do I connect the Cat digital voltage regulator with the SSR 63-12 for parralling the generators.

Well, I would get on the blower to each of those two manufacturers and start there.

The pin-out of the SSR 63-12 is straight forward. If the digital regulator is also Basler then there should be similarity in the pin-out. Basler says if you are paralleling SSR and non-SSR regulators, there is a specific hook-up in the SSR manual that requires you to install a burden resistor on load share connection to the SSR. Manuals are simple to read. Check your manual or call Basler which can be a challenge sometimes. PMG or non-PMG should not matter.
