Selection of Breaker for APFCR panel

02/29/2012 1:16 AM

Hello every one,

In one of my Commercial project I have selected Transformer of 1750 KVA as per the load, for that i have selected 625 KVAR APFCR panel, for this panel i have selected 1200 Amps ACB as main incommer of panel.

I calculated based upon this formula

Breaker= ((output KVAR * 1000)/ ((supply vltg)*sqrt(3)))*1.5

and by thumb rule: kvar x 2 = 1250 Amps

My conclusion is Whether this calculation is correct? and what is the difference between ACCP panel and APFCR panel ?

Friend,

I have not done this, but have two thoughts. First, the manufacturer of the APFCR and its panel would normally specify the size of overcurrent protection they require. Second, it seems to me that a load requiring 625 kVAR for power factor correction on a transformer rated at 1750 kVA is rather heavy on the kVAR rating. Perhaps I am wrong, but that is my "gut feeling". -JMM
