High Speed Laser Cutter

05/05/2007 4:35 PM

Hello Guys, and Gals...

Just wondering about a source of an inexspensive laser hole cutting machine for Acrylic.

This Laser would only need to burn through 1/4" acrylic sheet at the most.

Any ideas of a source, or possibly someone that could provide that service somewhere in the Mid-south, USA ?

Sincerely

Donald...

Just a quick question... Why do you want to do this by laser? Why not use a common high-speed drill? Just curious.

We could have it done on a multiple drill press, but we also may need clean cut holes and have seen the work that the Lasers do on the Gemini Plastic letters, Very impressive.

We may not buy one right now, but it will come in handy later working with plastics, and some of our new PCV LED product for custom made LED window signs, MADE IN AMERICA

Actually, I would welcome knowing of those that offer this drilling and router type service for acrylic sheet..

I thnk you may make a mistake, just as Vermin at #2 thread said you can use a program controlled drill to implement your creatures, that better use for cutting lwtters and cave picture of advertisement and decoration.

if you cut a hole at steel plate, you can select last cutter.

we can offer you both of that, serval has been selled to south asia and america.

Im in China.

Just search on google for 'laser cutter services', or similar. There are many shops around the country starting to specialize in fast turn around prototype services. These companies typically have laser cutters, water cutters, rapid prototypers and various CNC machines. Any of them could do your laser cutter work very quickly and relatively cheaply, until you buy a cutter of your own. If you want a cheap cutter, contact those same types of shops and tell them you are interested in buying used equipment anytime they are upgrading to new machines.

If you can't find a local shop, try universities. Many engineering and architecture schools have laser cutters. They don't typically do outside jobs, but they might be able to set you up with a supplier.

One person responded that you would want a water cutter. I've used both on 1/4 inch acrylic regularly, and the laser is the way to go. You can usually move quicker with water, but the laser tends to be cleaner and has a smaller cut width. Depending on the type of water cutter, and the type of abrasive, you can get a small area of scratching and dullness around cuts due to splashing, and can scratch elsewhere if you aren't careful cleaning.

With laser, you can also adjust the cut depth to score and write on the acrylic. Very cool, very useful.

if you use laser cutter t o burn acrylic there is a worst smell giving out at working. if yoiu use it write letter at other surface like wood, boomb etc, its good,

in fact, there are many advertisements in china use it as their carve tools.

of cause if you use it at acrylic, the programming drill is a best bet.

I would think that laser cutting a piece of acrylic would lead to a lot of smoke, melting and a possible fire. But I suppose it depends on how fast you go?

cutting or drawing on the plastic material will indeed produce smoke, and programming drill will produce powder in air, especially the fron will give out a worst smell in operation, so you hve to shield them in a transparency cabin to prevent poison gas from operator. I hve ever visit their workshop, and cut an organic transparent plastic(akeli? I forge its english name) plate, soon I escape out to outside by its smell

(dont laugh me at my tender will)

We have to admire it quality and speed and subtle. They sent me a sample and it still laid on my bookshelf

correct:

bamboo (not boomb;

in fact, there are many advertisements companies in china use it as their carve tools.)

the top here is demanded a hole drill, so I think your suggestion is right, use drilling tools.
