I am working in a power station which have two main units of 34 MW each and one Auxilliary unit of 4 MW.The two main units have step up transformers 11KV/132 KV Delta Star. While the aux unit is directly connected to an 11 KV bus. Also from the 132 Kv bus we use a step down transformer for our power house supply. This transformer is 132KV(Delta)/11KV Star. All the generators are Star(as normal).
The problem is when we run the Auxunit with the neutral grounding transformer connected the neutral transformer gets heated,it got damaged once. The designer says it is because of the star connection of the step down transformer and says we should run aux unit without the neutral gronding transformer.
Can any one help as to what difference will it makeThey say only 5 % of the protection will be effected.
