Motor staring on DG set

What size ( KW rating ) of motor can safely be started with DOL starter on a single 1250 kVA diesel generatin set at 440 volts/50 Hz output

Thumbrule is the motor rating shall not be more than 25% of the DG rating.

An approximate method of estimating the capacity of D.G set is to add full load currents of all loads to be run on D.G Set, then applying Diversity factor depending on your industry, process involved or guidelines correct capacity can be obtained .....

in your case you can go reverse .....!!!

Its also important to know what load your motor is starting and not just the size of the motor.

There are many papers published on the subject by leading genset manufacturers like CATERPILLAR, CUMMINS, KOHLER, etc. Pl. do a search.

A telephone call to the manufacturer of the <...1250 kVA diesel generatin set...> would be the quickest way to solve this one.
