You haven't mentioned your availability requirements and the ability of the vendors to match it.

You haven't mentioned transhipment costs and capabilities.

There is nothing here about the commissioning time that is needed and the supplier support for it.

You haven't mentioned the warranty considerations, the installation obstacles, any import customs considerations.

Nor have you mentioned any training considerations or standardised spare parts stockholdings, service intervals and downtime considerations.

So how can "better" have any meaning here?

What are the available colors?

Pink is contraindicated, but not a deal killer.

What's the currency? If it's $, € or £ I'd expect to get a few of them for 500,000..

Dude,

When its all said and done, it comes down to this. Where and for how much can I get the oil filters for it. in other words what is the maintenance expenditure going to be for the service life of the motor in its application.

Perkins generally has global off the shelf parts availability though if you don't care what it costs you can always fedex what you need when you need it. or be proactive and buy a lifetime suppy of consumables and store it. but then you need to factor in the storage costs to you budget.

We need more information in order to give you more than pressure points for your consideration..

Perkins would be generally the better choice given the two choices, but like the other posters have mentioned there isn't enough information given to make a good assessment.

I would think you should have a T-Bone and Baked Potato tonight as well

Based on the torque ratings, it appears the Perkins is 1800 RPM and the Marine Diesel is 3600 RPM. Your table shows them both to be turbo-charged, but they have about the same displacement, so does the Perkins have a lot more boost? (I suspect the MD is normally aspirated.)

Will either/both of them require gearing for the final drive? That could enter into your final choice.

Re: Engines

There are a lot of supporters of Perkins, but I have encountered some issues with non-UK Perkins engines (manufactured in different countries in Latin America). Parts are NOT interchangeable, and the Latin American versions don't seem to live up to my expectations of the Original Perkins line. This experience involves generator sets, not marine engines, but I have the distinct impression that Caterpillar bought Perkins to cover the low end of the market space, and have allowed some corners to be cut...

In the comparison table you should add one more column to show your requirement. Additionally, what is your running requirement and the maintenance expances for the regular running for each engine.

You just see the torque, Marine has just 50% of Perkines, is it suitable to you. Differnce in dry weight, what type of benefit this will give, you have to see.
