Exhaust Down Pipe Fell Out of Manifold

I have a 1996 chevy cavalier z24. The mounting bracket off my down pipe broke and the muffler slipped out of the manifold. How do i put it back together?

"...and the muffler slipped out of the manifold." I have no idea what this means. Is there really a muffler inside the exhaust manifold of a Chevy Cavalier?

right after the catalytic converter it goes into the downpipe theninto the header. there is a 4 bolt connector. thats where it came apart. is that connector welded to the pipe or is it a comprerssion fitting/

I read Manifold somewhere, assumed this to be the exhaust mainfold. Now I see the word Header.

Read the word Muffler, and now I see the words Catalytic Converter.

Maybe snap a few pics and place them here.

The guy on the right of the picture is JohnDG.

I don't remember much more about that afternoon. It may have been 34.5.

Don't even ask about that night..................

Weld the pipe and be done with it, OP.

While Cavaliers seem to be pretty unreliable, they are not unrepairable (generally).

If someone wants to try and get another year or two out of one of these, what the heck? If a cogent plea for assistance comes here to CR4, I don't mind helping out if I can. These other-than-cogent pleas are not limited to Cavalier owners, ya know.

We are not all made of money. (I am out of SSD solution. Can somebody help?)
