"A machine"? You might want to be a bit more specific:

?

This sounds a lot like homework to me.

I'd use a hollow shaft. You didn't ask why, so I'll not bore you with an explanation.

Strength, hardness, toughness, elasticity, plasticity, brittleness, and ductility and malleability are a few mechanical properties.

I'd recommend using a metallic foam shaft with rhinestone inlays. It will look really neat and exotic. The glitz and frugality of using rhinestones will quickly get the OP into the marketing department where the real money can be found.

i suggest you to use a hollow shaft coz u r donig a demo model if u r using for heavy rpm and load variation i recommended to use a solid shaft.

why you always mark your reply as 'off-topic'.

Designing a machine (name ?) and asking for type of shaft. Why not you design a shaft first to fulfill the requirement of the new machine.

A word of caution when using hollow shafts, you need to make sure the OD is larger that the ID. Otheerwise the hollow shaft will be invisible, and the machine will think it is missing!
