What is Difference Between Input Chock and Output Chock?

03/28/2012 1:30 AM

Dear All,

Please suggest me what is the different between Input and Output chock of VFD?

I still confuse because of input frequency is 50Hz and output frequency is PWM.

Please give us suggestion how to calculate impedance and Time constant of Output and Input chock.

Thanks & regards,

Mukesh Dadhaniya

Proprietary CE-marked VFDs come with these components correctly selected. There is no need to worry or be confused about them, as someone else has already done just that and eliminated the confusion.

Input choke in a VFD is to avoid the harmonics generated by the VFD from flowing back to the grid (you see! a choke is an inductor, which would offer high impedance for the high frequency harmonics). It is also possible to prevent external harmonics from flowing into the VFD and corrupting it.

Whereas the output choke between a VFD output and the motor is to compensate for the long cable capacitance, thus preventing any damage to the motor due to the reflecting wave phenomenon.
