Pipe Wall Thickness Calculated For PMS

04/04/2012 5:11 AM

Hi Friends,

At present, we have flare line in a project with following table design condition:

Pipe
Size
inch

D mm

th mm

Material

T
°C

P
kPa

SE
kPa

y

521321.09.53A358-304L-196\2001,100115,1430.4

Our PMS selection classes for this line indicate thickness about 17.48 mm but calculation by ASME B31.3 has 9.53 mm thickness for this line, our service is cryogenic,

Calculate:

tm=1100*1321+0 mm
2(115143+1100*0.4)
tm=6.29 mm
T=tm+0.125 tm
T=7.076 mm
WALL THICKNESS= 9.53 mm

I think wall thickness calculation by ASME B31.3, cannot base for PMS and that will be minimum pressure design and we must be considered weight load of pipe and ….

Please if experience or exact information source you have, discuss here…

Thank you,

Well I'm just guessing here but 9.55 looks like standard rating, 17.48 looks like maybe schd 80 or thereabouts....You could have calculations on two different materials for your pipe...One more expensive lighter stronger alloy, and one heavier weaker cheaper steel....Why not check with the design engineer and see....
