Substation 33KV/11KV Cable Interconnection?

04/05/2012 9:49 AM

I am currently working in the construction of a 33KV/11KV substation.

I do not have cable schedule.

How can I create a cable schedule? Through studying the connections inside the Relay and control panel, 33KV Vaccuum circuit breaker etc.

The substation has following equipment:

Current transformer with ratio

100-200/1A

with three nos of cores one for metering rest for protection

1. Step down transformer 33kv/11kv without OLTC , an oil temperature and winding temperature indicator ,Dyn11, oil natural air natural , buccholz relay

2. Vacuum circuit breaker crompton greaves

3. relay and control panel having an over current relay , a master trip relay and two number of auxilliary relay (I think the two number of auxiliary relays are for oil temperature indicator and winding temperature buccholz relay )

4. Incomer + 4nos of feeders

with energy meter fitted in them all respectively and also

each having a over current relay and

breaker tripping control

Do these have their own separate current and voltage transformers inside them

What exactly is your role in this construction project?

How is the project moving forward with no cable schedule?

Who is the engineer of record on this project?

Is this homework?

If this is not homework you sound like you are in way over your head!

i have completed bachelors in engineering few months back and i joined this company

these people have experienced engineers and currently i am working as the site engineers looking after the work

I want to learn so i wanted to know about the connections .

they will send an experienced person once the civil work and the erection is voer

but i want to learn in my free time so I need help about the basics and the approach to be used to learn about interconnections

The short and simple is:

To generate a cable schedule, you need to establish the manufacturers rating of all electrical equipment and then establish the real life loads on the equipment.

You will need to develop a drawing of the site with the location of all electrical equipment.

Next develop a table of cable to/from (connection points) locations for each piece of equipment for each cable.

Calculate your loads to/from each piece of equipment and verify that you are not exceeding the manufacturers ratings for each piece of equipment.

With a cable voltage/ampacity schedule in hand, ascertain the proper sized cables to/from each piece of equipment based on your load calcs and the equipment ratings.

Enter these sizes in your cable to/from table.

Here is an example of a cable schedule:

My apologies for the poor quality, this is the best that can be attached.

If you PM me, I can send you a copy in PDF format that you will be able to read better.

Good luck with your project!

By the way - Welcome to CR4!

I don't want to generate a real cable schedule But what i meant by using the word cable schedule was to get an idea Like

How many cables will be coming from the circuit breaker to the control and relay panel ?

what is the function of master trip relay in the control and relay panel ?

Does the Relay send signal to the breaker to trip directly or through the master trip relay ?

will cables from the outdoor cts has to be brought to the incomer and feeder also for measurement of energy or they have their separate cts and vts ?

How many cables was to be brought to the incomer from circuit breaker ?

my aim is to get an overview of how this and panels and relays and incomer feeders etc are interconnected and how they work as a whole

Thanks for the replies !

GEEESH!

Start by getting a copy of the project plans and specifications.

Study them once, twice and three times. Get familiarized with the project in it's entirety.

Then tag along with the "professionals" from your firm on the job site.

We have no way of knowing what you are doing without the contract (project) documents that should be available to you.

We have no way of knowing how many cables without the project documents.

I'm out of here - Good Luck!
