Wanted to Lock a Tube Inside a Bigger Tube

04/06/2012 5:48 PM

What do they call the popup button that is used in adjusting the length of a vacuum hose or a tent pole? It is spring loaded with a button at the end that is pushed in to adjust the length and will pop up in another hole for a different length. I nee these for a couple of things I am manufacturing. Any help much appreciated.

Do you know a company that would sell these ? I am retired now and doing some machines that I wanted to do for some time . I have a simple way of drilling iron . A simple way of making a trouble light better . a way of putting a winch in a 3/4 ton truck pluss a few more .Where I live there is no manuacturing so it is hard to get parts for the things that I need for making them . Thank's

Thank's for your reply .The type that would work best is the socket type .I am putting a handle in a frame that is removed to carry it .I am working with 1/8" wall thick 3/4"square tubing to go in a 1" square tube .I am using a wing nut to secure it but it is too time consuming to make, where as a socket type could be made alot faster .

I'd use the double button type with something that heavy.I notice that these are for "tubing" but I can't see why the won't work on square tubing. Inserting them might be a little tricky.

I would say your best bet is the spring plungers I suggested earlier, they work well and I have used them before with great success. they come in all sizes and designs.

best regards,

Shawn

Thank's guys .That was a big help .I got to two suppliers now . We were using set screws before ,more cost and more time consuming .If you fellows have seen the Dragon Den in Canada, like the Shark Tent in the USA ,I told them I didn't wan't to make it and I didn't want to sell it .I wanted them to do it and send me a check .At my age time is more valuable than money . I could use a ambitious partner for this .My brother invented the machine to roll sod for lawns years ago and now lives in Flordia retired .That's what I want to do . thanks again

The two suppliers that I have contacted can't ship to Canada because of 911 new regulations .Can't beleive it?
