Mig Welding at Nitriding Material

04/09/2012 8:32 AM

Dear All,

we are trying to mig welding at the nitriding material.but there are very heavy sptter during the welding process. The another observation is crack problem after welding process. The process prameter & material specification is given below.

material 1 -

SAE J2340 420 XF STEEL WITH 2.0~2.2 THICKNESS

GAS NITRIDING SPECIFICATION ON MATERIAL 1

SURFACE HARDNESS Hv (0.1) 35 MIN

COMPOUND LAYER THICKNESS 10µm MIN

DIFFUSSION ZONE THICKNESS 0.45 MIN

material-2

ring gear SAE 1045/ 1050 ( THICKNESS 10 MM)

WELDING PROCESS PARAMETER

CURRENT 140 amp

voltage 14 volt

gas - no gas using

wire thickness- 1.2 mm

tip distance - 3~7 mm

welding wire specifiction

SFA/ AWS A5.20;E71T-GS

Manufacture -ESAB.

KINDLY HELP.

Your process says no gas.

You MUST USE A SHIELDING GAS!

Do you know what MIG welding is?

What type of shielding gas did you use?

I'm pretty sure you mean flux cored wire.

At any rate; you will probably have to preheat the base metals to 400 degrees F. The cool down should be controlled at a rate of about 50 degrees F/hr.

If this is for mass production, it will surely slow you down. Can case hardening be performed after the weld is made?
