Weld With A420 Elbow to A 106 Pipes

04/10/2012 3:56 AM

Dear Sir,

I have one trunion support with 2" 90° elbow ( ASTM A420 Gr. WPL6 Butt Weld Seamless). Unfortunately we dont have 1 1/2" Pipe (ASTM A333, Gr6), Can I Use A 106 pipe instead of A 333. Please advise me.. this is only trunion (dummy). If it is possible then what type of Electrode use,

Please advise me,

Thanks and Regards

Vani.

For trunion support you can very well use A 106 pipe with WPL6 grade fitting. For welding of two different grades of material you have option to use electrodes matching to any one of the grades to be welded but it is always better to use superior of two. So it is better to use electrodes suitable to WPL6 (may be E 8018 or 8016)
