Can anyone please help me how to design a belt & bucket elevator. Mainly formulae for calculating power required, number of buckets, etc.

Thanks.

Start with how much stuff needs shifting, at what rate, over what distance perpendicular to gravity? Of what material and texture is the stuff that needs shifting?

I am looking to shift grain with a bulk density of 525 kg/m3 @ 5 Te/Hr to a total height of 25m.

If in Great Britain...search for bucket elevator > get general info from manufacturer

Decide: buy or make your own buckets (it's not so hard)

I guess that your 5 Te = 5000 kg

(5000 kg/hr) / (524kg/m^3) =9.5238 cub meter (m^3) per 3600 seconds or

2645.5 cub cm per second.

Assuming (you may pick up other numbers): 3 bucket per one meter of the elevator belt and linear speed of 10 cm/s.......

Sorry I have to go, I will continue tomorrow if....More questions?

Get dimensions of the bucket

Marten Sprocket and Gear of Arlington Tx. USA sells elevator components (I have purchased many from them) but more to your question their catalogue has a nice section that can answer your questions such as a power usage table and thruput equations.

If you are simply looking for projected horsepower, the formula is relatively easy. You should check with the manufacturer for final, but this will get you close.

This is how I project motor size in the USA.

Capacity in pounds per hour / 60 minutes per hour x discharge height in feet / 30,000 (this is a constant) = ____ basre horsepower x service factor = required horsepower. Round this up to the next largest motor.
