04/23/2012 10:17 PM

Hello everyone,

I just want to know what exactly mean on below requirement of plate that Im going to procure in the plate mill or in the market. on what process it will be made (e.i. by test sample of plate and do the PWHT 3 times?) please kindly help.

Plates for shell shall be tested with 3 cycles simulated PWHT (One as required for service, One for shop repair and one for field repair/modification by COMPANY).

Thanks

I think the OP is not ready to specify materials.

OP, it just means that the sample must pass requirements after 3 heat treatment cycles.

"...must pass requirements after 3 heat treatment cycles"...Yes but after final welding. PWHT = Post Weld Heat Treatment

We have a similar requirement we have to qualify all our material and welding procedures for one and three cycles of PWHT, all it means is that when you install a new piece it needs to be PWHT, and then maybe there could be repairs done on the piece which would require more PWHT. So they want prove that after 3 cycles of PWHT your piece of metal will still have the required mechanical properties for which it was designed.

For a proper simulation you need to actually weld the sample according to the approved weld procedure.
