European Motor Use in Asia

04/26/2012 11:59 PM

I have a European Standard Induction Motor as rated :

Volt : 380 Vac

Freq: 50Hz

Output: 22kW

Rpm: 1480rpm (4 pole)

In Asia, 3Phase power requirement will be: 415V, 50Hz.

I would like to use this motor in Asia. In my opinion, considering the voltage drop along the line from MCC will reduce the volt to some varies value. Does the value would make the motor run?? Is it run efficiently?? Any other things that we should consider??

You will have to save the image and blow it up in size.

TonyS response sums it all. It can be said that the three phase, 50Hz motors rated 380V, 400V, 415V, 440V can be interchangeably used without any problem to the motor.

The torque and current characteristics change depending on the actual voltage vis-a-vis the rated voltage and that needs to be verified with the connected load requirements and the switchgear component ratings.

Until about 15 years ago European 3ph motors were 380v and UK motors 415v, then they decided to standardise at 400v. In reality not a lot was changed, and these motors will usually easily run at 400v plus or minus 10%, so you should be OK.
