Temperature Compensated Regulator (Charge Controller)

05/01/2012 2:59 AM

Hi friends, I am on a lookout for a 24V DC, 30A rated Temperature compensated regulator (TCR) which will be installed in an EEx'd' enclosure. It shall have provision for input of 2 nos EEx'e' certified battery(VRLA) temperature sensors. Can anyone recommend me a good manufacturer for this kind of TCR. Thanks

If it's to become mounted inside an EEx d enclosure, how is the thing to be set-up and tested? How is an operative going to do any adjustments or switching?

Also, how is the temperature rating of the outer surface of the EEx d enclosure to be affected by the location of heat-dissipating electrical equipment in it that wasn't there when the enclosure was originally certified EEx d?

Also, if it is inside the EEx d box in the hazardous area, and therefore cannot have access to any user-operated controls or testing, then as a passive device, why cannot the cable lengths be changed so as to place the unit in the safe area, thereby doing away with need for the EEx d box and making testing, set-up and adjustment simpler?

Thank you Slack for the reply. I will elaborate further on this. The TCR is being used on an unmanned offshore wellhead platform classified fully as Zone-2 area. The power input to the TCR is from thermal electric generators. The testing , setting and adjustments will all be done during the commissioning stage. This TCR is mounted in an EEx'd' Control & Distribution panel which is located close to the battery boxes (2 nos.) My main concern is I am looking out for a TCR which has input for 2 nos battery temperature sensors, If you know any manufacturer, please can you suggest.

Are the batteries inside EEx d boxes too? Are they type-tested to comply with the boxes EEx d certification?

Are the thermal electric generators EEx d too? What make and model number?

Is the EEx d control and distribution panel a proprietary item? If so, how is its certification affected by the mounting of a TCR inside it?
