CO Scrubber/ Zero Air Generator

05/18/2012 12:24 PM

Does anyone know of any zero gas generators capable of supplying clean zero air 80psi @ a flow rate of 10lpm minimum? Most brands seem to limit at about 35 psi.

Second part would be does anyone know if any scrubbing material capable of taking ambient levels of CO out of compressed air? Currently use Purafil chemisorbant to remove SO2, H2S, NOX out of an airstream but it doesnt knock out CO.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Sodium hydroxide will remove CO2. You may need a compressor add on to boost the pressure of your system.

How about a 35psi to 80psi booster compressor after the scrubber?

This is standard practice in the respiratory protection industry where a separate supply of compressed air fed to people wearing facemasks, either by permanent airline (hosepipe) or by self contained cylinders.

Compressed air breathing purifiers are readily available for this purpose - 10 bar to 300 bar, from a few litres per minute up to thousands of lpm, either throw-away cartridges for one-off occasional use, or self-regenerating for continuous use. Make sure the CO stage is included, and ask for performance figures, because there are no national or international standards for the design and testing of such products.

For starters, Look under the NILTOX brand for 10bar purifiers made by Willpower Breathing Air Ltd - there's lots of practical basic info there.

Catalyst is used to remove CO. It runs forever on CO but it is ruined by water vapour. So keep the air bone dry. Purafill will do this for while. Wet catalyst can be dried out (by heat or back-flow with pure dry air) and it will work again on CO.

I hope this helps.
