LV Board Drawers Adaptation

05/26/2012 11:06 AM

I have a drawer in an LV board which is intended to be used as a motor starter; presently my client wants me to use that drawer as a feeder point for a transformer. Do you think it is advisable? Or are they any obvious challenges. The drawer is actually an intelligent motor protection drawer Typical M4. The transformer is about 50KVA

You cannot use the motor starter itself as a feeder to a transformer, but certainly you can order a new feeder unit drawer to replace the motor starter drawer. There is no issue with doing that.

No problem unless the transformer load, combined with other loads on the same busbar section, exceeds the capacity of that section; or of the individual drawer.

ensure that d drawer component ratings and d busbar ratings agree with d transformer data for u to use d drawer.if not go for a new feeder drawer for d transformer.

You can adapt the motor drawer to feed the Transformer.Using the transformer data, calculate for the ratings of the drawer components,if the existing drawer component ratings can carry the transformer, then use it.If it cant, replace the necessary components. However you must ensure that the drawer busbar can as well handle the full load of the transformer as additional load. This adaptation must be cost effective else you order an appropriate and cost effective feeder drawer unit for the Transformer.
