Cut-Throat Contact

05/30/2012 3:27 PM

What is the difference between standard NO and NC contacts and a cut-throat contact, does this mean that the cut-throat contact operation has a time delay before. We are using a Seimens AR133 relay and it chatters ... see commissioning explanation;

"To allow both local and remote selection of the sequence close state the in/out switching is performed by an electrically operated and reset latching relay. This relay has permanently connected coils which may be damaged if continuously energised. External connections have been made to a normally closed contact in series with the operate coil and a normally open in series with the reset coil to provide a cut-throat function. Unfortunately the N/C contact opens very early in the operating stroke of the relay and cuts off the coil before the latch has operated, so when attempting to switch in the relay chatters and on releasing the control comes to rest in the "out" position. If the relay is manually latched in the "in" position, the switch out operation works correctly because the N/O contact (now closed because the relay is operated) does not open until the latch has been successfully released by the reset coil. The operate coil of this relay should have an internal cut-throat contact which is driven from the latching mechanism to work correctly."

Does anyone know the model of Seimens AR??? that solves this problem?

The cut-throat contact just opens the supply to the coil after it is latched to prevent coil overheating mainly.

The cut-throat should be a late breaking contact to ensure the coil has sealed before de-energising
