API Gauge

Hi All can anyone help to let me know is all API thread gauge is mean for after coating or before coating .right now i machine a I.d 3" BPV before coating the gauge check is O.K but after coating the gauge cannot engage.is the coating too thick or the gauges is not mean for after coating.

Either the coating is too thick, or the threads were not cut sufficiently undersize to allow for the coating. The threads need to fit the gauges after coating.
