Life Span of a Sea Water Cooling Line in MODU

Hi All,

What will be the life span of a Sea water cooling line made of Schedule 40 A 53 GrB without coating ?. Subject line is in a Rig for D Gen Fuel oil cooling purpose.

Appreciate all valuable comments, even though it' s an assumption..

You will probably lose 5-20mil pipe surface due to corrosion per year...Depending on depth, galvanic forces, temp etc....Just guessing...

You cannot say what the lifespan of the pipe is without knowing the corrosion allowance in the design, that is an thickness over and above that needed for strength as a structural element and as a pipe.

A web search finds several sources of info on corrosion rates.

It will be much shorter than one made from plastics or glass-reinforced polyester.
