Can someone advise on the economics of this compared with making H2 from natural gas?
The biggest problem I have is that, though the advisor to the project has experience in setting up a medium scale biodiesel business, he is fixated about this venture focusing on making hydrogen from the crude glycerol (It will be a completely separate business this time, disposing of the glycerol from small biodiesel outfits in the area).
The project is only at the stage where financing is being sought, so I want to ensure that we have the most robust model possible to take to investors.
The other, possibly bigger problem as I see it, is that not only is H2 the only product that he recommends to produce (even though many other more value-added and transportable products also have potential) but he is pushing the idea that the H2 will be immediately consumed in a fuel cell (further large expenditure up front!) rather than considering if it's more valuable as a feedstock.
