Carbide Phase of Steel is Converted to Graphite

06/07/2012 2:01 AM

At High Temperature, the carbide phase of steel is converted to graphite so one can not use CS at High temperature.

Pl. explain this with respect to mechanical properties, consequence of phase change, cost, significance, per microscopic behavior/metallurgy of steel, etc

Thanks

It loses mechanical strength with increasing temperature. Graphite is not as strong as steel.
