US NFPA 70E Requirements

06/07/2012 3:11 PM

I need opinions from those familiar with the NFPA 70E requirements in the US. I have been told that this part of the code is not really enforceable, it is just mentioned as a footnote to the regular NFPA 70 National lectric Code. Is that true? If so, why bother? Seems to me to be a lot of work to go through all the training and design requirements, only to find out nobody really cares.

It's a code. It's enforceable.

Simply put -

NFPA 70 is the code for the STUFF, as stated below. NFPA 70E is the code for the safety of the PEOPLE working with and around the STUFF.

Why Bother? A lot of Work? Nobody really cares? Uhhhh, please place my application in the trash if I ever accidentally apply for a job at your workplace.

What does NFPA 70 address? The NEC addresses the installation of electrical conductors, equipment, and raceways; signaling and communications conductors, equipment, and raceways; and optical fiber cables and raceways in commercial, residential, and industrial occupancies.

The National Fire Protection Association or NFPA 70 / NEC is a compilation of acceptable Standards use as a guide in the implementation /application of good engineering practices. It is a Standard, Not a U.S. law per se, unless adopted and enforced by any entity, public or private.
