Internal Coated and Corrosion Allowance

06/07/2012 4:21 PM

Hi friends,

I am dealing with tanks for water containing service which an engineering company specified internal coating (for corrosion protection) but also with 1.6 mm corrosion allowance. To me if internal coating is specified you will not need to specify corrosion allowance. Does any one have experience or idea?

Is there any standard specifying internal coationg of tanks/vessels with corrosion allowance?

Your comments/help is appreciated.

Kevin

It depends upon the properties of the water and the materials of the tank, neither of which have been specified in the original posting.

  • Plastic tanks don't deteriorate in contact with water, and a corrosion allowance would therefore be inapplicable. Neither do they need an internal coating.

Thanks for your response. The tank material is carbon steel. So I wonder if it is necessary to specify corrosion allowance together with internal coating (all internal).

No corrosion allowance will be specified for plastic.
