No, Don't be silly.

Mercury cannot be converted into gold.

Lead can be converted into gold.

LynDoor™Industries has a full line of converters for every need.

Or, we will take your lead and process it in our secret factory in Utah.

The cost is minimal and we guarantee satisfactory results.

You can, but it takes about a 130 lbs of mercury to make an oz of gold....

You are likely confusing one of the more hazardous but simplest gold refining techniques where Mercury chemically bonds with Gold. The Gold/Mercury fluid is then heated so that the Mercury vaporizes away leaving Gold.

However, you are technically correct that one can make Gold from Mercury. You will never make a profit actually transmuting Mercury into Gold. You will have to build a very powerful proton accelerator and bombard Mercury with protons. This will briefly transmute some of the Mercury atoms into unstable Thallium atoms. These Thallium nuclei will capture electrons and bingo, you have radioactive gold. This will be an even more dangerous process than the refining technique and you will be spending enormous amounts of money (after building the accelerator) for ultimately a few hundred atoms of Gold but these atoms were once Mercury.

This is an age old Indian story. People talked about a sage who could convert river soil in to gold. One man found a Sadhu doing meditation under a banyan tree. He approached and could impress Sadhu by paying great respect. Happy Sadhu asked the man if he want anything. The man immediately requested the Sadhu to teach him to convert river soil in to Gold.

The Sadhu explained the method as below and anybody can do it:

Get some fine quality mud from river bed and manufacture some beautiful pottery. Then sell them at best price. Over a period of time when you got sufficient money, just go to market and buy GOLD with that money.

By waving a wand made from yew cut at sunrise over the mercury and chanting the words "Abracadabra hocus pocus, turn this quicksilver into gold dust,

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn".

Repeat the process 3 times and you will learn something new.
