Power Droop vs. Speed Droop

Our 800kw, 1500 Rpm genset have two potentiometers on control penel labelled as SPEED DROOP and POWER DROOP. what is the diffrence between them because as for as i know speed droop basically controls speed/frequency before synchronization and power/fuel after paralleling with mains. in other words are'nt cotrolling speed ,fuel,active power and frequency mean same thing. regards

MACHINE (GENERATOR) SPEED = FREQUENCY

MACHINE (GENERATOR) POWER OUTPUT = VOLTAGE LEVEL X MACHINE (SYSTEM) LOAD CURRENT

GENERATOR OUTPUT POWER => Is not equal to nor totally dependent on machine speed or frequency.

The machine can most likely ouput maximum voltage and/or power via increasing generator excitation without attaining or maintaining proper frequency.

SPEED DROOP => Generator output frequency control setpoint and allowed deviation.

POWER DROOP => Generator output power level control setpoint and allowed deviation. (Voltage level adjustment only as current is a derived function of system load and machine design limit.)

Speed Droop means the generator slows down as load increases. This is the opposite of Isochronous. These are normally governor functions. Voltage regulators have settings for Constant Power Factor, Constant Voltage, and Constant MVar. The opposite of any of these "constant" settings would be considered "Droop" You can be set for Speed Droop and change the voltage regulator settings to suit your needs. Normally only very large (1000 MW) base load machines have their governors set for Isochronous operation and constant voltage is a very common setting in the US.
