Dear(s),

Kindly explain some standard approach for designing SELF REINFORCED NOZZLES. Is there any restruction for hub thickness, hub height etc. as per UG-40 or any other relevant clause.

Regards,

There are five cross-sectional areas that must add up to a certain amount. Some of these areas are within the nozzle. Make them collectively as large as the original five areas.

Sir,

Thanks for your reply. I belive you are directing towards area required vs area available for the nozzle reinforcement calcualtions ? If no, than please elaborate your reply.

In addition to that, i read in SHELL Specification that hub thickness should not be more than 2 x shell thickness, is this ASME code requirement ? Is there any restrication to hub height ?

Thanks and Regards,

Yes to the first question; that is the basis of of the idea.

If memory serves (from years ago), the limits of reinforcement must be within twice the diameter of the nozzle cutout, and within (2.5 x shell thickness*) of the inside and outside surfaces of the shell.

*I'm not sure whether that is supposed to be required vs. actual shell thickness.
