Larry,

This post is pushing the limits for not so helpful replies. You would get much more help if you would first begin your research with information freely available on the internet. After you have digested the basics, you should come back to this forum with more specific questions regarding aspects you do not fully understand in regards to your specific intended application.

Regards

Tim

Do you think people have the time to teach you the design of something that is quite complex when the information is readily available if you just look. You may even have to resort to sitting down and reading a book and absorbing the salient points. People on this site are helpful, but will not spoon-feed you the answers.

Had you started with I've been reading up on AVR's and I'm struggling with xxxxx because I don't understand yyyyy.

You would get a great response.

Which AVR? The one that controls the exciter of the alternator on board the genset or self regulating autotransformer that goes between the load and the genset?

Can't you just purchase one?

To Sir Wal,

AVR that control the exciter. Most of our genset of our vessels are old model and most AVR have problem. We are able to buy but I would like to assemble on my own with the help of mentors for us not to bought one after the other. thanks

So instead of buying one after another you are going to be repairing one after another?

I don't see how reinventing the wheel will help you. This is for a commercial application right?

You aren't the first to ask though http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/67923/How-to-build-an-AVR-for-a-three-phase-generator
