Windows Vista

05/14/2007 8:20 AM

Does anybody has experience with installing Microsoft Office 2003 on a PC/Laptop with Windows Vista as an operating system? Can this be done or do I need MS Office 2007?

From what I have read, Vista is generally incompatible with older hardware and software. I think its release is a capitalist attempt to force us into consumption ("upgrades"). It is not so much about serving YOU with new abilities as it is about giving THEM new markets.

Here is an interesting review on Vista:

I've had no problems with MSO 2003 operating in Vista, other than the stupid call to verify that the old machine no longer had it installed. MS can't stop pirates, but they like to niggle us to death.

BTW, I tried the trial office for vista, and found it impossible to do anything I wanted to do. Like Vista itself, they want to dump every file into a single directory. I have many multi-megabyte folders for each of 2 dozen projects, and even if I save in it's correct folder, my recent files and default directory has a mile long list of files I'd rather keep access to limited eyes. If I had my resume there, everyone would be able to see what I'm doing. Letters to my girlfriend should be easily found by the wife or kids?

Or is that to make it easier for "COYOTE" to keep us safe from all but us?

I just brought a laptop with Vista as its operating systems. It came with 2007 MS office trial version. I deleted the trial version and install my full version of 2000 MS office suite, and I never have any problem with it.

I run Vista on my home PC. I'm beginning to notice a few bugs but nothing to absurd! I don't run MS Office at home. I refuse to spend that much money for home applications (of course your apps may not be home related). However, I had no problem installing Open Office. For those of you not familiar with Open Office, its a free office tool that is compatible with MS Office. I haven't found many draw backs with it yet and of course its free! Open Office Link

I've installed some other older software on my Vista laptop, including AutoCAD. It should install fine, if you have any problems running it, use the control panel to change the settings on the program to 'run in windows xp mode'. I get an incompatibility message every time I start up an old program but if you hit 'run anyway' it runs perfectly.

Many versions of RSLogix will not run on Vista. Sucks.
