DC Motor Direction

07/05/2012 3:01 PM

Dear Sir

I have eurotherm 590 analog series dc drive without any display. I mean in case of any fault there are LED are there to indicate, and to adjust current, voltage and other things potentiometers are there.

My problem is that, the dc motor connected this drive was failed and rewinded. this motor is 97KW with 460v armature. It has tachogenerator mounted on non driving side.

When I connected this motor to drive, sudden spark came on commutator and breaker tripped. This moment I understand that the motor and tachogenerator directions are not matched that's why drive gave full voltage output which make it short circuit.

Then I changed the tachogenerator direction and started and run the motor

Now please can anyone tell me how I can find out the direction of tachogenerator with respect to armature winding?

if you know the direction of motor shaft you can check the positive wire of tacho by voltmeter when you try to rotate the tacho shaft in the same direction of motor shaft manualy, then you put this wire into positive terminal of tacho in the drive.
