Terminal Rusting problem

07/06/2012 12:50 AM

We are importing terminals for making wiring harness from korea, germany, we own a warehouse and deliver it as per the customers demand .Last time we had a quality issue of rusting on the terminals. How could it happens in some reels only where as the other reels are okay.

Was it due to any packing defects, bonding problems etc...we havet taken these terminals through ships and some we did air lifting...

Anybody could suggest a solutions?

Is there a moisture problem in the warehouse, how are the harnesses packed?

what are they transported in?

Cargo in planes can have large temperature swings while at sea the cargo could be affected by the salty sea air.

Anything exposed to salt spray and acid rain that can rust, will...

you say rust rather than corrosion, what are the terminals made of? If they are plated steel then the plating probably isn't thick enough or was improperly applied, I would assume all of the reels were exposed to the same environment. do you have goods inwards inspection? Can you section one good and one defective terminal and compare them? Is there a batch or date code?

Thanks for your prompt reply..we don't have any inward inspection...my query is that the rust happened only on some reels with intermittently ...why the other reels not get affected?

The terminals made of tin plated ...i too had doubt of not proper coating but the intermittent terminals in a reel it was happened...so am raising the question

Can you sort out the manufacturer / supplier and contact the supplier for problem.

What are your specs for material and surface finish?

Still not enough to go on.

What is the base metal? Only steel will rust. Is it red, or green?

Are the reels identified separetly, by a number?

Do you use specifications to purchase these?

Coat them in grease prior to shipment.

the metal used to make the terminals is obviously not corrosion resistant. specify the metal content needed in the contract instead of buying the cheapest sh-t available.
