In the absence of any context,

  • design is the methodical creation of a concept and its commitment to a statement of intent
  • validation is the methodical process of examination and confirming that what was intended has been created
  • planing is the act of reducing a dimension of an item so as to produce a surface that is flat in two axes that are at right angles to each other and perpendicular to the direction of reduction
