Sizing a Generator

07/06/2012 5:58 AM

What will be the standard size of a generator for a 100 kva single phase step-down transformer supply. Is a 125KVA gen-set enough size to this kind of load in a hospital building? Pls. comment.

put it this way... how much does cost a 125 KVA gen, and how much does it cost a 200KVA gen... if you had to pay 1k more for the second I would recommend having the second. and then perhaps you could feed 2 steppers

Thank you sir, You are correct the price diffrence is minimal as we go higher in KVA ratings for Gen-set. Is the fuel consumption of a bigger gen-set varied much? Anyway we only load the gen-set maybe at most 5-6 times a year. we warm-uped the engine once a week for 10 minutes!!

IF YOU CONSIDER 25% MARGIN THEN IT IS CORRECT .YOU SHOULD GO FOR SINGLE PHASE DIESEL GENRATOR.

BUT WHAT IS THE VOLTAGE OF TRANSFORMER PRI/SEC.?

Yes Sir, this is a single-phase 220V 125KVA transformer, the supplier need to reconnect the generator windings in order to deliver a single phasesupply at 220V, wherein it is clear that our required max. full load current is attained at full load.
