What Will be the Effect if Lead Changed at Alternator?

07/06/2012 8:28 AM

If we interchange the + ve&-ve lead from the rotating rectifier diode to main field coil of the alternator then what will be the result? If we interchange the+ ve&-ve lead from the AVR output to field coil of the exciter then what will be the result? If we interchange the pmg stator lead to AVR input (p2,p3,p4 terminal) then what will be the result?

Assuming that the alternator is connected to a voltage regulator/battery system, and it is being driven.

The first action wil result in releasing the smoke that was intended to be trapped by the insulation. All subsequent actions will result in no discernable change.

Have fun!

If you survive the test, let us know how it worked out!

Nothing will happen in case of changing the direction of the whole wheeling diode rectifier or the +ve & -ve of the main field coil, but it will be a really problem if you changed the direction of one diode.. On the other hand, for changing the +ve & -ve of the AVR it will be a problem if field flashing is on. For PMG a backup supply from a battery bank might also be there that can cause a problem if working together. Hope I answered your question.

Do you still, " need a complete circuit diagram of a 400 kw Stamford alternator including stamford mx 341model avr, exciter, pmg ,quadrature droop ct,with burden resistor .(circuit diagram of inside connections for alternator terminal box)"?

Bad if not terminal for the alternator/regulator.

If you don't have the relevant knowledge to do a thing, find someone who does and let them do it.

This sounds like a hypothetical homework question to me.

A cursory glance at the alternator's wiring diagram and requisite knowledge will give you the answer.

If this isn't a homework question then please tell us why you are contemplating these changes.
