Software Allowing Text Insertion Into Digital Photo File

07/08/2012 11:24 AM

Hello all. I'm looking for some sort of downloadable (preferably free) software that would allow me to insert standard MS Word text files (*.docx or *.txt formats) into digital pics.

Yes, I have done a Google Search as well as look in cnet.com. The results have been somewhat unsatisfactory; hundreds of hits that don't provide much in the way of true capabilities, specifications and independent reviews. I want to narrow down the field of candidates before downloading any software. I'm trying to avoid cluttering-up of my hard drive and later removal of any unwanted software that doesn't fill the bill.

I'd like a software that's easy to understand and easy to use so that I don't have to spend tens of hours learning the dang software.

Basically, what I am looking to do is insert a pre-written blog onto a previously prepared photowall file (*.jpeg photo collage) that can inserted later into my business website currently under construction.

Yes, I could manually re-type the entire blog for each blog page in the various software packages (Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3, GIMP, Serif WebPlus X4, Photobie, Pixia, and Inkscape for starters) that I presently have, but why re-invert the wheel, correct? Plus, I'm too lazy and cheapo to pay someone else to do this work...I cannot afford to spend hundreds, even thousands, of $$$$ to pay a website developer!

I also want the software to allow me to reposition the text and/or edit it later on in the future, if need be.

Does anyone out there in cyberland know of a decent software that has these capabilities?

TIA!!!! Keep kewl in this darn heat wave peeps!

This sounds like something useful.

Is it a capability that you've seen evidence of on other web-sites? Can you point to some example web-sites that do this so we can get a better appreciation of what you are wanting to accomplish?

I have seen it done on some websites, but for the life of me I don't remember where nor do I have their URLs. I will endeavor to post such a website, time permitting, which doesn't allow much room for wiggles.

Since this is destined for web-page use, does the HTML/CSS "background" command work for you?

http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_background-image.asp

I've used backgrounds many times and this seems as simple as it gets. Both the image and the HTML text content remain intact and can be edited as needed.

If you're creating a webpage, you can just write it in the html language yourself...

Sorry guys, I know next to ZILCH about writing HTML, and want to avoid it at all cost.

Thanks anyhow.

A simple approach is to use MS Paint. Open the photo you want to edit and insert the text either via the text editor box in MS paint or by a copy/paste operation from a Word doc, which will be treated as a bitmap (.bmp) file in Paint. Word has more font options than are provided in Paint, in case the font is important to what you are doing.

I usually save a copy as a .bmp file in case further editing is needed, but .bmp files are usually large, so if I'm emailing a pic or using it in a webpage I use a 2nd copy saved as a .jpg file.

If you're using Windows, the MS Paint program is already there under 'Windows / Accessories'. I'd guess a similar program exists in a Mac OS.

USB, many thanks! I'll give it the 'ole one-two' and see how it works....

I try doing this in my Corel Paintshop Photo Pro X3, but the text ran off beyond the vertical borders on each side, which was weird, even when I downsized the font size. Frustrating at best!

Naturally, I didn't think of using MS Paint....my bad! I tried downloading everything under the Sun and forgot about trying Paint. Duuhhhhhhh!

ps: GA from me for your fine response!

Hey USB, I was able to add the MS Word document to the photowall in MS Paint. however, how does one make the white text box transparent as it covers the photos!?

I did find a graphics software called Photo Pos Pro that works very well and doing what I want it to do. There will be a long learning curve for this one, but hey, it's FREEWARE!!! Also, you can utilize it for website development! VERY KEWL!!!!!!

Even the software developer's plug-ins and add-ons are free! Hoooray!!!!!!!!

In paint when entering a text box there are two selections to the left which look like a triangle, circle and square on a yellow background. Select them each to see the difference it makes to the white background of your text box. You'll get the idea.
