The multiplication of any meter is the number used to convert the displayed value into the actual measured value.

Multification factor =VA/max scale deflection=W*PF/max scale deflection

Multiplication factor of wattmeter is used to determine accurate reading of meter with respect to meters scale deflection.

Dear Friend,

The Power generation of high capacity, will have 11 KV, Voltage Level and Current will be in large value.

In order to measure the Power, a Potential Transformer and a Current Transformer is used. The Metring Voltage will be 110 volts, and the Secondary Current Rating for the Current Transformer will be 5 Amps. Hence Multiplication Factor comes into picture.

So the Factor for Potential Transformer voltage is 11000/110 = 100. Similarly for the Current Transformer - Let us say the Full Load Current of Alternator is 500 Amps at 11 KV, then the Factor is 500/5 = 100. The Watt Meter will measure at 110 Voltage and 5 Amps and indicate the Power and hence the Power measured by this Meter to be multiplied by 100 x 100 = 1,000.
