Minimum Required Thickness per DNV 81

07/23/2012 5:58 PM

I am trying to determine the minimum required thickness of a 6'' fuel gas pipeline designed to DNV 81. Could anyone please assist with the formula to use? I do not have a copy of DNV 81 where I could have checked the necessary calculation/formula. Thanks.

You should have a copy of this specification if you are going to work to it.

Pipes are tabulated according to various schedules that are related to the maximum working pressures they are intended to carry at various temperatures. Carrying out thickness calculations from first principles is rarely necessary, however, as an academic exercise, consider a force balance on a plane in the pipe that has been sectioned along a diameter.
