Harmonic Currents in Transformer Due to Saturation

08/03/2012 7:17 AM

In transformers we need third harmonic current(due to saturation) because then the voltage is sinousidal . We dont need harmonics in voltage which occurs due to neutral shifting because then the voltage will not be sinusuidal at the load. In order to suppress harmonics in voltage we use zig zag transformer to ground the neutral , so that there is no neutral shifting.

Is the above description correct for harmonics in transformers due to saturation?
