Class 0.3 CT for Revenue Metering

08/12/2012 1:50 AM

For one of the projects, i have used class 0.2 CT(Current transformers) for revenue metering, since class 0.3 was the requirement. Now do i have to use class 0.2 Energy meters for revenue metering? or can i use class 1 energy meters , since i have already chosen the correct CT.

thank you

Based on your logic, why not? That will give you greater accuracy.

Perhaps OP could tell us what the difference is between these classes....

The class gives the value of the measuring error.

It has been a long time ago, but I think class 1 equals to 1% measuring error.

Class 0.2 equals to 0.2 % measuring error.

According this, you can not go for a class 1 measuring instrument (which will be cheaper ..);

A chain is as strong as the weakest point..

You must use a class 0.2S (not even 0.2, I would say) for the CT as well as for the meter for tariff metering. But, well, as your spec. was Class 0.3, you have already gone for a better accuracy CT with your Class 0.2 CT. But, here only the CT will be accurate. If you "marry" a Class 1.0 Meter to this, the meter will still have its errors pertaining to its class. So, it is always better to have the meter & the CT of the same accuracy class.
